Bar Cart Makeover with BEHR PREMIUMᵀᴹ Spray Paint

Sponsored by BEHR

For years, I combed through countless bar carts for our space but never really liked their colour or functionality until I saw this beauty literally laying at the front of someone’s driveway waiting to be picked up. For a few months, I didn’t know what to do with it because, well, it wasn’t that pretty but when BEHR approached me with their new BEHR PREMIUMᵀᴹ Spray Paint, that bar cart came to mind for a total makeover.

This bar cart had great bones, it just needed a little love (or a lot) so, I knew BEHR PREMIUM Spray Paint – which works for both indoor and outdoor use – was the perfect solution to give it just what it needed.

First, I began dismantling the cart, removing the arms, wheels, drawer, and hardware from it. I needed to sand the bar cart to get rid of any imperfections. I took a hobby sander and got rid of loose paint, chips, and blemishes from the cart. When it comes to DIY projects, sanding is by far my least favourite step, but it’s necessary to achieve a flawless finish.

After a few rounds of sanding, I cleaned the entire bar cart with a damp cloth to get rid of dirt and dust. This step is crucial! Always make sure your item is cleaned thoroughly before painting or else you’ll be dealing with more imperfections, and that means more sanding to fix it!  After allowing the cart to dry, I got to the fun part – using BEHR PREMIUMᵀᴹ Spray Paint!

I chose three colours in different finishes (they had so many beautiful options, it was a struggle for me to decide),

  • White 52 in Satin for the entire cart
  • The new Metallic Vintage Gold SP-203 in Gloss for the hardware
  • Beyond Navy SP-108 in Flat for an accent piece to go with the cart

I’ve never spray-painted furniture before, but it was incredibly entertaining! In one even spray, the first coat gave the entire bar cart great coverage (thanks to the paint and primer in one can). After I let the first coat dry, I gave it another two thin coats just to be sure I covered everything. I also sprayed the hardware and found that only two coats were needed.

Then I started thinking about the accent piece for the bar cart. The navy blue I chose is a beautiful deep blue which was giving me coastal vibes, so I took a white vase collecting dust in the back of one of our cabinets and sprayed it with the colour Beyond Navy. It took just two coats to cover the vase and it dried fairly quick. My new vase was ready for fresh flowers to complete the entire bar cart. I also decided to add a fun detail to the cart and sprayed the side of the drawer in Beyond Navy as well, just to give it that POP of colour!

Voila! After the bar cart dried completely, I wheeled it outside, sat down on a beautiful Sunday evening, made myself the perfect G&T and enjoyed my new STUNNING bar cart!

I LOVE how well it turned out and the finish was incredibly flawless thanks to the excellent adhesion and great hide and coverage. No brush strokes, everything was even and I’m so ready to entertain guests inside and out with my new bestie bar cart!

If you have any old furniture laying around, BEHR PREMIUMᵀᴹ Spray Paint is the easiest solution for a refresh.
